Shelyn is a lifelong resident of Massena. She is a local business owner (Simplicity Boutique) as well as host of a short term stay rental (Sleep at Simplicity.) She has recently retired from a 30+ year career with the State of New York working the last 26 years locally in Massena at the Wellness Center (Mental Health Clinic). Shelyn and her husband, Darren, raised four children and were actively involved in their athletics volunteering with softball, hockey, soccer, and cheerleading.
Shelyn previously sat on the board of the Massena Chamber of Commerce and was a one-time President of the Board. She was a volunteer with the Downtown Christmas Events. She was part of the Local Planning Committee of the DRI and is on the current Downtown Revitalization Initiative Committee. Shelyn was a previous Massena Village Trustee. She has hosted workshops at Massena Public Library on how to start a business and during her term as Trustee through Economic Development worked with code enforcement to create a guide on how to start a business in the Village.
In June of 2023 Shelyn organized a downtown sidewalk sale and vendor event and in October of 2023 Shelyn spearheaded Fall Fest – Pumpkinpalooza, a community event, held downtown with children’s activities, food, vendors, and music. In both 2023 and 2024 funds were raised which were donated to the restoration of the Massena Schine Theatre. This has turned into an annual event and is entering it’s third year.
Shelyn has a vested interest in rebuilding downtown and economic development with a platform of Community Over Competition which is fostering business relationships and collaboration, focusing on helping others, which leads in the success of everyone. With her proven history of dedication to Massena and community involvement, she aspires to keep moving Massena forward.
